	Description
This is an early 19th century hand colored lithograph the the French printmaker Hippolyte Bellange (1800-1866). At an early age Bellange entered the studio of Antoine J. Gros, where he became friendly with a fellow pupil, Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet (1792-1845), who greatly influenced him.
Like Charlet, Bellangé produced many prints of military scenes (including fifteen albums of lithographs published by Gihaut frères 1823-35).
Bellange first made his name at the Paris Salon as a battle painter, but later specialised in anecdotal paintings of Napoleonic subjects. He enjoyed considerable popular and official success. He was Keeper of the Rouen Museum from 1835-52.
