Description
"La Revue Blanche", by Bonnard, is one of the plates from the turn-of-the-century "Masters of the Poster" series, which consists of 256 small format lithographic prints of the best posters of the Belle Epoque. This lithograph, after the original poster, was printed in colors on wove paper with the blind stamp of the publisher, Les MaƮtres de l'Affiche, printed by Imprimerie Chaix, Paris in 1894. This impression has the blindstamp of the MDL in the lower right. Bonnard did this poster in 1894 for to advertise the magazine "La Revue Blanche." The poster was printed by Ancourt and measured 31-1/2 x 24-3/8." The poster makes note of the new price and frequency of publication, which had been bi-monthly, contained 50 pages and cost 60 centimes. The artists at Chaix reworked the image to this smaller format and published it for the general public, which often preferred purchasing the smaller sizes for their home.
