	Description
This is a hand colored aquatint by James A. Merigot and was published by Merigot and Robert Edwards (1768-1827) in London in 1798 as a portfolio titled: "A SELECT COLLECTION OF VIEWS AND RUINS IN ROME AND ITS VICINITY; EXECUTED FROM DRAWINGS MADE UPON THE SPOT IN THE YEAR 1791" The portfolio consisted of 59 plates, printed on J. Whatman paper. Each image has a typeset title and the publication line, which in this case, reads: "London, Pub’d Feb’y 20th 1793 by J. Merigot No 28 Haymarket, & R. Edwards 142 New Bond Street.” An ancient bridge dedicated to Publilcus Varus, a Roman politician and general under the Emperor Augustus. He lost 3 Roman Legions and his own life to Arminius in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.
