Description
This strange image depicts a side show at a fair or bazaar. What appears to be Satan is standing on a platform - behind him is a skeleton, a calavera. There is are two light bulbs for illumination. A crowd stands, looking at the figure. James Wechsler did an excellent biography on Ocampo in the book "Mexico and Modern Printmaking / A Revolution in the Graphic Arts, 1920 to 1950"; page 200. Wechsler states: "As Ocampo's body of work attests, this undeservedly overlooked artist was one of the most original voices in modern Mexican art."
