This poster for World War I, which read "Provide the Sinews of War - Buy War Bonds", was derived from his original lithograph (Wuerth 512) and is mentioned by Weurth in his book on Pennell's lithographs, page 230: "...Subjects from which posters were made, brought up on stone and worked over by Pennell...." Because of this the images are reversed on the posters.
Pennell comments about the image: "Dignified, solemn, immense she sttod, held to the dock by the great cables; and the great cranes swung great car loads of war work aboard her, as fast as the engines could bring them. On land she was guarded by the marines. In the air the planes were guarding her."
He did not identify the location or the ship.
