Description
Andre Michel was best known for his portrayals of dancers in both prints and paintings, and was himself a set designer for the Paris Opera. In this color lithograph, he depicts the performers of El Sombrero de Tres Picos (Le Tricorne; The Three-Cornered Hat), a Spanish ballet originally choreographed and scored in 1919, waiting for their entrance. Interestingly, though this piece was created in 1949, it appears to feature the original costumes designed by Pablo Picasso in 1919.
