Description
A rare vintage portrait of photographer Cedric Wright by Bishop. Wright was a member of the Group f64, a collective of Bay Area-based photographers that included Imogen Cunningham, Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and more. He was a noted personality among the Bay Area luminaries of the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, and was an accomplished violinist and outdoor enthusiast. He frequently turned his camera to the landscapes of the High Sierras. Upon his death a peak in Kings Canyon National Park was named after him. Wrote Ansel Adams of Wright: "[Wright was] my best friend for many years. ...[He was] almost an occupant of another world and a creator and messenger of beauty and mysteries. Perhaps his greatest gift was that of imparting confidence to those who were wavering on the edge of fear and indecision; often it was me." Find more work by G.
