Description
Rhode Island-born, Los Angeles-based actor Henry Herbert (1879 - 1956) played Jesus Christ in the Pilgrimage Play Theater in Cahuenga Pass, Los Angeles, CA, in 1920 and 1923.
In addition to his stage work, Henry Herbert (not be confused with the British-born actor of the same name and birthdate) was known for his film work in La Tosca (1918), The Little Minister (1922), The Clean-Up Man (1928), and Phantom Lady (1944).
Geritz created numerous portraits of Hollywood marquee figures, whether established or up-and-coming. His signature minimalistic approach focused on the subject's most recognizable features to pay his homage - in this case, Herbert's dramatic, nearly gaunt facial structure and his sorrowful expression.
