Description
A winding river curves around a bend, reflecting the sunlit profile of Mount Shasta, draped in snow. Long a destination for campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts, Mount Shasta, located in the upper central region of Northern California, is the spiritual home of the Shasta, Wintu, Atchumawi, Atsugewi, and Modoc tribes. The broad, flat plain of the central valley spreads south of the mountain’s base, allowing northbound travelers to see the peak from hundreds of miles away.
Here, California artist Ryan uses his keen graphic sense to portray the majestic peak from the timberline. Known for his woodcut depictions of natural landscapes, Ryan manages to express the awesome scope of California’s peaks and deserts in simple, elegant snapshots.
