Description
Gilhooly used the concept of "Jackson Pollock's Dog" for a number of prints, paintings, and sculptures over the years. This 1991 version has the additional title on the published edition of 25: "On My Old Black and White TV".
This impression is a printer's proof from the Master Printer Patrick Surgalski, one of six proofs, printed aside from published edition of 25 and selected by the printer in partial excharge for the assistance.
Gilhooly created this composition flinging the tushe like paint using Pollack's splatter method, coupled with gestural, calligraphic black lines. Pollack was often photographed with his dogs Gyp, a black and white Border Collie and Ahab, a Standard Poodle, who kept him company in his studio as he worked.
