This abstract color lithograph, by Swiss artist Georges Item, was done for the International Graphic Arts Society (IGAS) in an edition of 200 plus 10 artist's proofs. Half the edition (100 impressions) was sold in the US and the other half in Europe.
The entry in the IGAS catalog 35 of September 1959 notes: 'Georges Item was born in Switzerland. After completing his studies there, he established himself at St. Remy, in the Provence region of France. He was soon won completely by this meridianal countryside known as the Camargue....
Not content to reproduce merely the "skeleton" of the landscape, he wanted to show its eternal unchanging qualities. The artist works in painting, printmaking and fresco.
