Description
After the advertisement poster for A la Place Clichy department store, highlighting women's summer fashions. The original poster was designed by an artist who signed "LEM," which is frequently associated the name Louis Lemoine-Maudet. However, no dates or information on the education or career of an artist by that name have been found thus far.
Another artist sometimes attributed to LEM is the French Belle Epoque illustrator, painter, and poster designer Dominique-Florentin-Ernest Barthelemy (Paris, 3/9/1868 - 6/23/1940), who was known professionally as Ernest Thelem. Either way, the artist who signed "LEM" was a prolific poster designer with several images commissioned by la Place Clichy.
