Description
After the poster by Henri-Gustav Gossot for the Amieux Brothers, a popular, family-owned tinned sardine company that was founded in 1866 and still operates today. The poster highlights the late 19th century's rise in the industrial food packing industry, as the popularity of canning and tinning allowed for the longevity of otherwise highly perishable foods. Amieux Freres was known for the freshness of their sardines and other small fish offerings, packaged directly at their seaside factories. In this miniaturized version of the poster, a fisherman holding a tin of sardines and a lantern hauls his catch in a basket on his back. The subtitle translates loosely: "Here's another one whose is always 'to do better'."
