Biography

Max Hein was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 27, 1943. He received his bachelors degree at San Diego University in 1966 and his M.A. and M.F.A. at UCLA in Los Angeles. Hein began teaching printmaking at the Santa Rosa Junior College in California in 1960. He did independent study in Japan in 1980.

Hein exhibited extensively throughout the world including the Pasadena Museum of Art in 1969 & 70; Bradford Museum in Yorkshire, England; Nova Scotia College of Art in 1972; the Hudson River Museum; Documenta, Torino, Italy; the National Collection of Fine Arts and many others.

Max Hein’s work can be found in the collections of the Pasadena Museum of Art; Documenta, Torino, Italy, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Fiat, Italy; Visual Studies Workshop, NY and I..B.M. to name a few. Hein is retired from teaching and currently lives and continues to work in Northern California.
