Ludwig (Louis) Ernest Faber, painter and printmaker, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1855. He began his training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and in 1890 he went to Paris where he studied at the Académie Julian for two years under Constant (Nieuwenhuys), Jules Joseph Lefebvre, and Tony Robert-Fleury. He also studied at the Munich Academy. Faber was a member of and exhibited with the Philadelphia Sketch Club, the Philadelphia Society of Etchers, the American Art Association in Paris, and the Pennsylvania Society of Miniature Painters. He also exhibited at the Paris. Salon, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He died on August 16, 1916.
