Frederik Bloemaert was a Dutch printmaker and draftsman who was born between 1610 and 1616 in Utrecht, Netherlands. His father, Abraham Bloemaert, was a noted painter of historic, religious, and genre scenes, as well as portraits, and was also a gifted printmaker. Frederik learned engraving from his father and much of his output as a printmaker was engravings after his father’s designs. Frederik also created etchings and sometimes enhanced his prints with chiaroscuro woodblock. His principal work was a drawing book containing 173 plates. Frederik Bloemaert died in Utrecht on June 11, 1690.
