Biography

Ceramicist and photographer Gertrud Båge was born in 1935. She didn't pursue the arts until she was in her 30s, taking courses in ceramics at Konstfack University of Art and Deisgn while working as a researcher at Stockholm University in the 1970s. She quickly established a career thereafter, becoming fluent in stoneware, earthenware, and raku firing, which she studied under Len Andersson in Järvsö. Her interest in experimental oxidized glazes led to a collection of 600 test dishes highlighting her techniques. She designed a line of earthenware dishes based on vintage designs for the Gysinge restoration company, as well as a six foot tall pot for the Hornsgatan thoroughfar in Stockholm. Båge operated her own studio in on the famed Österlångattan road in Gamla Stan, Stockholm which she operated for forty years, finally retiring in 2017.

Gertrud Båge exhibited throughout Sweden and taught ceramics from her studio. Her work is included in the collection of the Swedish National Museum.
