Biography

Irene Dogmatic, born Nancy Maass Mosen, studied at Occidental College, Los Angeles, followed by the University of California, Berkeley where she earned a BA in Painting in 1967, and San Francisco State University, earning her MA in Painting in 1971. She formally began her art career in 1972 under her given name, and in the early 1980s she became involved with the San Francisco punk scene, performing in the band The Beautykillers as Irene Dogmatic.

In addition to painting, Dogmatic has worked in printmaking and has a mural at the Carlton Arms Hotel in New York City. She continues to work and exhibit throughout the U.S. and abroad.
