Biography

Printmaker Donald Ferguson was born in Oklahoma and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas with a focus on Humanities and began working as a teacher in the Houston area before moving to Southern California. Frequent trips to Mexico City, likely in the 1970s and '80s, put him in the company of artists such as Nehum Zenil, and by the early 1990s he was inspired to pursue art himself.

Ferguson took courses in printmaking at the Los Angeles Community College in 2001, and from there began focusing almost exclusively on monotypes printed with oil paints. While often described as an Abstract Expressionist or non-objective artist, Ferguson does not classify his art in one category or another. He continues to work and exhibit throughout California and beyond.

Ferguson's art is included in the permanent collection of the High Art Museum of Huntsville, Alabama, as well as in private collections in France, the Czech Republic, Argentine, El Salvador, Mexico, and the United States.
