Biography

Despite a prolific artistic output, there is limited information on painter Albert Frank Jacobson, who was born on November 27, 1891 in Oakland, California, to Dutch immigrant parents. For the majority of his life he lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he married and started a family with Laura Green. His preferred medium was gouache and his work focused primarily on landscapes, especially of the coastal regions along Monterey and Sonoma Counties. Sweeping, atmospheric landscapes were executed with keen sensitivity to light. He was a regular exhibitor in Oakland throughout the 1920s. He died in Sacramento on May 22, 1967.

Information on Jacobson's life is partially gathered from Edan Hughes' "Artists in California 1786-1940." If you have more information to add to this biography, please contact the gallery at artannex@aol.com or (707) 546-7352.
