African-American artist Lester Hines was born in Washington, Beaufort, North Carolina on May 23, 1924. Hines enlisted in the US Army between 1943 until January 1946 and then re-enlisted in July of 1948 through May of 1952. Sometime after this he moved to Seattle, Washington. In the 1970s Hines created a number of color linocuts based on African, Native American and Eskimo themes and motifs.
Lester Hines died in Seattle, Washington on March 22, 2008.
