Waldo Spore Chase was born in Seattle, Washington on March 7, 1895.  He was a printmaker with no formal art training, and a school teacher.  Chase taught himself the art of woodcut using the book “Woodblock Printing” by Frank Morley Fletcher.

 In the late 1920s and 1930s he lived and worked out of a teepee with his younger brother Wendell Corwin Chase.  The brothers moved around Washington State, sketching and making woodcuts of Lake Washington, Mt. Rainier, Hood Canal, and other locations.

 Waldo S. Chase died in Union, Washington on April, 07, 1988
