Shirley May Tabler (née Shirley May Bosley), painter and printmaker, was born to Howard Leon and Ella May Miles Bosley on 18 March 1936 in Washington, D.C. She attended college in her late 30s and early 40s and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Maryland with Master degrees in Art Education and Library Sciences. She taught high school art classes in the Montgomery County Public School district and pursued painting and printmaking on her own time. She exhibited frequently, and was listed in the 1993-1994 Who's Who of American Women Artists.

Tabler was a member of the Miniature Painters Sculptors Gravers Society, the National League of American Pen Women, the Cider Painters, the Olney Art Association, and the Washington Printmakers. Her work is included in the permanent collection of Smithsonian American Art Museum.
