Biography
Waldo Edmund Bemis, watercolorist, illustrator, printmaker and designer, was born in Covina, California, on July 26, 1891. He studied art at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design, the University of California Berkeley, and the Grand Central School of Art in New York City. He was a veteran of World War I and lived most of his life in California. In 1928, Bemis moved to New York where he lived and worked for twenty-two years. He was an art director for the advertising firm, Foster and Kleiser, and also worked for Forbes Lithograph Manufacturing Company and the Pacific Railways. Waldo Edmund Bemis returned to California in 1950 and died in a veteran’s hospital in Pasadena on September 9, 1951.
