Jose Patricio Biography

Jose Patricio

Installation artist, painter, and printmaker José Patricio was born in Recife, Brazil, in 1960, where he currently lives and works. Little is found on his life or education. However, he has exhibited frequently and at major institutions since the early 1980s. By the early 1990s he had begun to transition from painting and printmaking to three dimensional arrangments in everyday objects such as dice, dominoes, buttons, and more, composed like paintings as individual works or as floors, walls, murals, and more. In 1999 he was given his first major commission, an installation at the São Francisco Convent in João Pessoa in 1999. His work is often tied to geometric abstraction and Concretism.
