Biography

Tonia Nagle (also known as Tonia Nagle Casey) was born in Krakow, Poland in March of 1913. According to an article on the work of her daughter, artist Stefani Esta, Tonia immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1921. She lived briefly in Canada with her young family before relocating to New York and then to California. She studied at Otis Art Institute and Chouinard, as well as the Phoenix Institute in New York, and she taught art in the 1950s and 1960s. She was primarily associated with the Redlands Arts Association and the arts community of Riverside, both in California.

Nagle exhibited her work at the La Sierra College art gallery and the Fine Arts Gallery of the Mission Inn at Riverside. She taught art at Redlands High School, Riverside City College, and at the Riverside YWCA teaching children's and adult classes. She moved to Laguna Beach after she finished teaching where she worked tirelessly, selling her work at the Laguna Beach Art Festivals. Tonia Nagle died in Laguna Beach in early March of 1982.
