Richard Bawden, painter, printmaker and designer, was born on 18 March 1936 in Braintree, Essex, England, the son of the well-known artist, Edward Bawden, R.A.
Bawden studied painting, printmaking and graphic design at Chelsea, St Martin's and the Royal College of Art and worked predominantly in linocut, etching and watercolor. He designed murals, etched glass church windows and doors, mosaics, furniture, book illustrations and a poster for the London Transport.
Bawden had over fifty solo exhibitions including a major retrospective at Gainsborough's House in Suffolk. His work is represented in the collections of the Tate, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal Collection, and the Government Art Collection. He was a Council member of the Royal Watercolour Society, an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, a member of the New English Art Club, and a former Chairman of the Gainsborough House Print Workshop in Sudbury, England.
Richard Bawden died on 31 May 2024.
