Baumann’s woodcut, Past History, depicts a sheer cliff wall in El Rito de los Frijoles Canyon where man once inhabited caves and cliff dwellings. The canyon wall is pocked with cave openings and smaller holes which held wooden supports for the cliff dwellings that have fallen into rubble on the canyon floor. Pictographs grace the canyon wall giving us insight into the history of the ancient people who once lived there.
