Description
Carmel Mission, now known as Carmel Mission Basilica, is located in Monterey, California where Margaret Bruton resided with her artist sisters Esther and Helen. The mission was established in 1770 by Spanish colonizers and is still regarded as one of the major cultural and historic landmarks in California as well as the Carmel community. The history of missions in California has its beginnings in the 16th century when the Spanish first established themselves in Baja in the 1630s.
