Breaking dawn stretches across a rosy, mountainous horizon, softly illuminating a walking figure and the traditional thatched roofs and silvery garden foliage of a farmhouse in this early Micah Schwaberow, “Above Yamashita’s.”/i>
The house belonged to a friend with whom he lived during his studies with Toshi Yoshida in Nagai, Japan. Schwaberow’s mastery of light has been a staple of his works from the beginning of his career, coaxing gentle tonality from the woodblocks with as much deftness as any watercolorist.
