Description
La Paglia was obviously an amateur ornithologist who delighted in the contrasting colors, interesting feather patterns, intricate designs, and the unique characteristics that gave life to the voiceless birds in his color woodcuts. He perched his pairs on branches from which hung a few decorative leaves and placed them against flat, neutral backgrounds. La Paglia seldom annotated his color woodcuts with anything but his signature so it is up to us to identify his birds. Any takers? Can you identify these two birds?
