Description
"Embarazada" was number 5 from a series of 7 lithographs that were inspired by the panels Orozco painted for the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria in Mexico. The first state of this shows the figure of the woman turned to the right and was done in an edition of 100, published by Delphic Studios in New York. Hopkins dated 'Soldier's Wife' at 1926 however, Marrizzoni dates it at 1930. Orozco drew the images on zinc plates that were printed in New York by George Miller and shown at Weyhe Gallery in New York. The second state, like this impression, was a counter-proof, printed in reverse, also in an edition of 100. This state appears to be extremely rare, a search of the internet and books on Mexican prints have not discovered another image of it. This impression is from the estate of Hawaiian printmaker John Kelly.
