Magnolias No. 1 is a decorative floral oil painting set against a gold backdrop. Magnolia grandiflora is a popular ornamental tree that has large, white fragrant flowers and glossy, leathery dark green leaves. In her painting, Jessie Arms Botke captured the life cycle of the magnolia flower. A white bud is juxtaposed to an opening bud and above them are two mature, red-orange spherical cone-like fruiting clusters that were once the center of magnolia flowers.
