Description
This was the last of five prints offered by the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, March 31,1940, in their fourth series Contemporary Graphics. Loran's "San Francisco Bay" is a modernist urban landscape depicting San Francisco's waterfront. There are modes of transportation throughout the image including ferryboats, delivery trucks, a school bus, and a freighter. Across the bay is Alcatraz Island and beyond that the Marin headlands. The only human element is the Matisse inspired odalisque featured in the billboard.
