The image is the plaza in Cordova, New Mexico. Baumann was intrigued by the history of the Southwest including the churches and pueblos. The village lies a short distance off the "High Road" to Taos, NM on State Road 76, between Chimayo and Truchas.
"Cordova Plaza" was commissioned by the Woodcut Society in its 12th year as the Presentation Print for November of 1943, the 24th in the series of 44 woodcuts issued between 1932 and 1954.
The woodcut was printed by Baumann in an edition of 200 impressions which were pencil signed and titled by Baumann but were unnumbered. The print was issued in a portfolio that included an essay by George William Eggars. The Woodcut Society was located at the Care of the Torch Press, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
