Description
Notes Chamberlain on page 229 of In a Modern Rendering: The Color Woodcuts of Gustave Baumann: 'Writing in 1925, Blanche Grant described Baumann's subjuect as it was a few years later: "The Loma lies less than half a mile to the west of the plaza. There have been houses on this little hill since the early part of the nineteenth century, at least, though most of the houses now standing were probably built around 1850." Before the advent of conveniences such as gas and electrcity, people living in the towns and villages depended on firewood for cooking and heat. Burros laden with wood for sale were a common sight on the roads. The dirt road into Taos dips and bends before ascending inot the Loma.'
