Description
Georges Villa (1883-1965) was a French illustrator, painter, printmaker and noted caricaturist. This caricature is of the Spanish Prince, Jaime de Bourbon with his distinctive handlebar moustache. Don Jaime de Bourbon was the Duke of Spain, also known as Jaime de Bourbon y Borbon Parma, 1870 - 1931. He was born in Switzerland and educated in France, England and Germany and served in the Russian army. He was a Carlist claimant to the Spanish throne as James III and a legitimate claimant to the French throne as Jacques I. After living under house arrest in Austria during WWI, he moved to Paris, where he died in April of 1931. From a San Francisco estate which included a number of items related to Russian General d'Osnobichine, who was also an artist.
