William Schaldach captures a blooming stem of Tall Blazing Star, or Liatris aspera, native to his home state of Indiana and elsewhere in the Midwest, South, and East Coast of the United States. It is a host to native bee populations as well as hummingbirds and butterflies. While Schaldach was best known for his fishing and hunting illustrations, he captured flora and fauna of all types throughout his life.
