In 1851 Daubigny published a series of twelve etchings, printed in two series of six images. There were five separate printings of this group.

This impression is number eight of the twelve, the second image from the second series of six. It is from the fifth state, printed Chine collé on a white paper with the lettering at the bottom that reads: "Daubigny 1850" / "Paris. Imp par Aug Delatre Fo-bourg Poissonniere, 145"

"The Ferry, a Memory of the Iles de Bezons on the Seine" Bezons in a suburb of Paris, located on the Seine river about 7-1/2 miles from Paris. Daubigny's subject for this print is a flatboat ferry used to transport people and goods from one side of the river to the other.
