Description
This poster was part of a collection of images illustrating the fashions of different eras, dating from ancient times up through 1900, published by the WPA. They were reproduced in smaller versions and were used as visual aides in the public school system. The Museum Extension Project was a sub-agency of the Work Projects Administration, operating primarily out of Pennsylvania and Connecticut (though 24 states participated, all told), and created approximately 880 jobs during the Great Depression. The aim of the project was to produce items of "visual culture" to aid in history and other lessons for primary school children. The MEP emerged from the Division of Women's and Professional Projects.
