Description
Night of the Dead, or Noche de Muertos, is a ritual celebration that precedes Day of the Dead, and in Janitzio takes place on the evening of November 1st, lasting through the day of the 2nd. The island town of Janitzio is located at the top of the main land mass in Lake Patzcuaro, in Michoacan, Mexico. The island is only reachable by boat. During the town's famous El Dia de los Muertos festival, attendees from surrounding areas arrive at the island by candle-lit boats. They then make their way to the town's church and graveyard, where fesitivities last throughout the night. This image depicts this momentous occasion.
