Description
A charcoal drawing by California artist Esther Bruton of Saint Mary's in the Mountains Church in Virginia City, Nevada. The Catholic Church was built in the late 1870s, after Virginia City burnt in the "Great Fire" of 1875, during the heyday of the Comstock Lode silver mining mania. The belltower has a 2,264 pound churchbell with a 100 pound clapper. It was retrofitted in 2009.
