Description
Picasso returned to the bullfight theme throughout his life. "La Rentrée du Taureau" is from a series of lithographs Picasso did in December and January of 1945/46. These highly stylized works which were drawn as if on a Etruscan jar or frieze, are quite unusual, the images drawn individually in black and scratched into to give a sense of age and decay. The victorious matador is followed by two horses dragging the body of the bull. On the verso of this print is a label from the gallery "il segno" in Rome where this impression was purchased in 1959.
