Despite its title, "Untitled #2", this image is the first lithograph printed and published by John Wilson's Lakeside Studios located in Lakeside, Michigan in 1969.
Printers Jack Lemon, who later founded Landfall Press, and Will Peterson collaborated with the noted African-American sculptor Richard Hunt to create a number of prints at Lakeside Studios. Lakeside Studios, which was founded as an artist's residency, closed in 1992.
Hunt's lithographs reflect his sculptures of the time, organic shapes resembling bones and skeletal systems. This could be a detail of a three dimensional object, a bas-relief landscape, the remains of a creature washed up on the shore or an intriguing abstraction. Hunt leaves the decision to the viewer.
