Description

Simon Edme Paul Jacquinot-Godard (F1779 - 1858) was a French magistrate and president of the Court of the Seine District in 1833, and was responsible for many lawsuits against the illustrated and often satirical newspaper Le Charivari, for whom Daumier frequently worked. Godard personified judicial authority in early 19th century France. This print predates Daumier's series Gens de Justice.
