Midori Kono Thiel did this abstract expressionist woodcut in Japan, while studying art at UC Berkeley.
Midori Kono Thiel was born in Berkeley, CA in 1933 and spent her childhood in Lahaina on the island of Maui, HI. She got her B.A. and M.A. in Fine Arts from U.C. Berkeley and studied woodblock printmaking in Tokyo, Japan on a traveling fellowship from U.C.B. In addition she has extensive postgraduate study in textiles, Japanese calligraphy, koto music and the performing arts of Noh and Kyogen. She lives in Washington state and exhibits her calligraphy in Japan.
