Biography

Printmaker, painter, and illustrator Karol Ondreicka was born in Cachtice, Slovakia, in 1944. He attented Loughbrough University in London, England, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Bratislava, where he studied under Albin Brunovsky; he graduated in 1974. He majored in printmaking but his work extended to book illustration, ex-libris and stamp design, and interior design.

Ondreicka taught in the fine arts department of the Academy throughout the 1990s and was a cofounder of the graphic artists' association G-BOD. He died after a long illness on November 11, 2003. Major retrosepctives of his work were held at the GMB Mirbach Palace in Bratislava, Kopple Castle in Prague, and Dolny Kubin.
