Biography

Aliss Tunbo, printmaker, was born Aliss Marie Hansen in 1928 to Hans and Karon Hansen in Chicago. Scant information can be found on this artist but she was affiliated with the National Serigraph Society in New York in the early 1950s. She was married at this time and signed her work with her married name, Tunbo. On 22 December 1956, Aliss married Robert Ray Beebe in Butte, Montana and after that she seems to have ended her pursuit of art for the demands of Robert's career in mining. Only in Mr. Beebe’s obituary can one find that Aliss Marie Hansen Tunbo Beebe died on 24 July 1992.

Tunbo was awarded the Marion Cunningham Memorial Award for the best serigraph by a woman in the Twelfth Annual Exhibition of the National Serigraph Society in March 1951. Her work is represented in the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art, and the New York Public Library.
