Description

White House Pool is a wide spot along the Lagunitas River, located in a 22-acre marshland preserve in the county of Marin, California. Situated one mile west of the town of Point Reyes Station, it follows the Papermill creek and hosts several bird species and other marshland wildlife. Various resting apots along the creek offer views of Tomales Bay as it winds toward the Pacific.

In this summer scene, Rice depicts a meandering bend in the sky-reflecting water, and in the distance, the smoothed crags of Black Mountain, dark blue shadows contrasting with sun-bleached grasses.
