"Tamalpais" was among the lithographs in the possession of Arthur C. Painter whose collection was an in-depth holding of unsold lithographs from the San Francisco Chronicle's Contemporary Graphic Series. It is possible that Haley produced this lithograph with this series in mind but it was not selected. Mt. Talampais is a peak in Marin County just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate and it adjoins the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
